About Us

Presidbeatrizpotter-aauw-websiteent’s Message

It is an honor and privilege to have been selected as the president of the Valdosta AAUW Branch. AAUW works in advancing equity for women and girls through advocacy, education, philanthropy, and research. We participate in AAUW’s mission at the local level by providing opportunities for women and girls from our community and at large.

In my more than 16 years as a member of Valdosta AAUW, I have served as past president, vice president for programs, vice-president for membership, and chair of the Sister to Sister Summit and have helped with the Political Forum and other activities. These opportunities have enriched my life professionally and personally. AAUW membership has also given me the opportunity to be part of a very interesting, diverse, and exceptional group of women who have always made me feel welcome.

My vision for these coming years is to continue strengthening our branch by working on programs and activities that provide opportunities to engage and empower us as active AAUW members. This includes programs that keep members engaged and motivate us to recruit new members. Let’s make increasing membership and diversity a primary goal for the coming years.

We have an outstanding program that continues with our tradition of the Political Forum in the fall and Sister to Sister Summit in spring as well as meetings focused on scholarships, business and multiculturalism. In addition, we have important initiatives in progress like the AAUW Students affiliate and STEM education. I would like to thank our past presidents, past and present officers and other members for making all these possible by leading and participating in the committees. I encourage all members to be involved in these and other programs. New initiatives and committees are most certainly welcome.

Let’s feel the passion as we share it. Let’s continue supporting and strengthening our great organization.
