Political Forum 2015

The Valdosta Branch of the American Association of University Women (AAUW)’s Candidate Forum of Candidates’ Qualifying for the Municipal Elections will be held on Thursday, September 24th at 7:00 pm in Powell Hall Auditorium on Valdosta State University’s (VSU) campus. Powell Hall is on VSU’s main campus and is north of the Bailey Science Center. Free parking is available in the lots on Georgia Avenue.

The AAUW Political Forum format has traditionally included a neutral moderator and a panel for each group of candidates for an office on stage in front of the seated audience. Our Moderator this year is Dr. Luke Fowler, Assistant Professor in the Political Science Department at Valdosta State University. Each candidate will have the opportunity to make a two-minute opening statement, to respond to questions posed by audience members, and to offer a one-minute closing statement. Those candidates whose opponents are not present and those candidates running unopposed may be able to make a statement and answer questions, time permitting.

These political forums were initiated by Dr. Jo Ann Hartman, educator, former political figure, and AAUW member. By tradition our forums are dedicated to the memory of Mrs. Virginia Branan, who worked with Dr. Hartman and AAUW to make these events a successful and valued part of AAUW’s service to the south Georgia region.

For more information please contact Dr. Diane Holliman, Political forum Chair, at dhollim@valdosta.edu.
